  73. What you have is a Lissajous pattern generator.  It can be used to compare
  74. the frquency ratios of two signals by counting the number of "loops" horiz
  75. vs vertical.  This I think is used to calibrate rtty setups, giving the
  76. classic 'eye' pattern.  You could also use a similar setup to trace
  77. transistor gain curves.  (horiz = base voltage, vert = collector voltage).
  78. If you want another neat idea, connect small speakers up and tape tiny
  79. mirrors on the cones, one speaker mounted vertical, the other horiz.  Shoot
  80. a laser off both mirrors and onto a wall.  A free laser show!!  Watch out
  81. for laser safety, for your eye's sake!!!

  83. I sometimes monitor my ham RF output to check for clipping, modulation, etc.

  112. Until recently I thought I was the only one to encounter a weak-link in 
  113. the '202 but have since talked to three others who had the same experience.

  115. To wit:  In removing or replacing the battery case it is very easy to 
  116. crack the thing ridge of plastic on the lower front panel.  At first 
  117. appearance this looks like a bit of trim to cover the metal guide rails 
  118. for the battery....wrong!  This holds the entire battery pack in position 
  119. to prevent lateral movement.  Once cracked the battery case "wobbles" and 
  120. DC voltage contact is intermitent.  A call to Tandy resulted in a price 
  121. qoute of >>$78.00<< for a new case!  At present a very strong, very wide 
  122. rubber band is holding the trim in place until I decide what cement I 
  123. want to use on it.  Mine broke as I was sliding the pack off....others 
  124. have said theirs broke sliding it on.  It appears any slight misalignment 
  125. puts pressure on this extremely this strip of plastic...then zap.

  136. I have a Kantronics KAM. Just upgraded to version 4 with  a new
  137. Eprom. When I fire it up I get a message "Can't write to EEPROM"
  138. or something similar. I've tried tech support hotline and so far
  139. have not been able to even get an answer. Any ideas?

  150. I have been using a Kenwood 742 since about the time it was first released. 
  151. Nothing but good performance in my shack.  Easily programmed and the circuitry
  152. is readily accessed.  My set-up utilizes the raw audio (pre-discriminator)
  153. output feeding a PrivatePatch V.  This gives me a cross-band repeater,
  154. autopatch, CW identifier, and switchable input frequencies.  The unit is remote
  155. controllable with DTMF codes and provides the ability to change freqs, CTCSS
  156. on/off, power level, VFO/MEM/CALL, etc.   Only flaw is the "ability" of the
  157. radio to pick up ambient DTMF signals in the shack which can then change the
  158. operating parameters if one is not paying attention.  This only occurs when the
  159. speaker mike is the selected mode vs the PrivatePatch.   The option of a third
  160. band is another nice feature.   All in all, I am very happy with the purchase
  161. and user-friendliness of the radio.  Drop me a line if you would like some

  200. Sorry, not possible. The HTX-202 is designed to NOT receive outside the 
  201. 2m band, thus rejecting all that crap from pagers and other nearby 
  202. radio services.

  221. I sent two out to a guy in new jersey who had the software to program 
  222. them to the ham band.  This guy uses syntor x conventional on the ham 
  223. band. 
  224.     One of our spectra was trunking only, the other 
  225. had only one conventional channel.  Only conventional channels can be 
  226. programmed to the ham band.  Then the VCO needs to be adjusted to lock 
  227. up.  And of course the rx front end & pa need to go thru the works too.
  228. An immense pain.

  230. I found the company in san diego call RF Neulink (also RF industries) 
  231. which is known for rf connectors/adapters.  They have new transmitters & 
  232. receivers for vhf/uhf/900mhz.  they are crystal controlled.  They have 
  233. another model for 900mhz which is synthesized.

  289. Hmmm . I've been using an IC-CM8 pack on my 202 for about 2 years now,
  290. but never had this problem. I did have to open up the battery pack and
  291. remove the ball detent, as the RS packs just have a dentent on the 
  292. radio side.
